Other courses
These courses are normally organised at facilities in or
around Nairobi, but can be organised on-farm in another country if more
convenient to the client (for example if a reasonable number of students from
the same company are enrolled).
Training needs analysis
A review of company-wide training needs to meet defined
objectives (audit standards etc) leading to a tailor-made training
programme.
The Agribusiness Director programme
A seminar which informs fresh produce directors of the
strategic, management and financial implications of relevant audits (GLOBALGAP,
HACCP, ETI etc.) and the adoption of technologies such as IPM.
Safe use of pesticides
A 3-day, modular course which ensures competence in the safe
use, storage and disposal of chemicals.
IPM field skills certificate
A four-day practical course in identification of pests and
diseases as well as natural enemies of pests and practice in IPM scouting
techniques (crop specific courses*).
IPM management certificate
A three-day course which enables managers to evaluate
scouting data and manage the risk of damage to a crop, without excessive use of
pesticides (crop specific courses*).
Advanced IPM certificate
A two-day intensive course for experienced crop protection
consultants to improve their ability to design and manage an IPM programme (crop
specific courses*).
*Crop specific courses: roses, carnations, summer flowers,
legumes, brassicas, root crops, leafy salads, tomatoes, coffee, cashew,
macadamia, sisal, passionfruit, strawberries, raspberries, and others
Pesticide information
A two-hour information event for all employees, including
office and packhouse staff, so that they are conversant with the company's
policy on the safe use of pesticides to ensure confidence and prevent
misunderstandings. (A series of these sessions would normally be scheduled
throughout a day to accommodate staff working patterns.)
Preparation for GLOBALGAP
This course will have been tailor-made following a
consultancy visit and a pre-audit from a GLOBALGAP expert.
