Senior Management Team

Real IPM has a well qualified team with extensive experience in the management of IPM crops in Africa where all year round growing conditions make pest populations higher than in Europe and a more demanding challenge. Our successes in Kenya have led to increasing demand from overseas customers. Our Senior Management Team is instrumental in the success of our business.

Henry Wainwright

Henry Wainwright  of Real IPM - an expert in integrated pest management

Dr Wainwright is Joint Managing Director and has international consultancy experience in agronomy and post harvest horticulture. Formerly Professor of Commercial Horticulture at Writtle College in the United Kingdom, he now leads the training department which has a unique range of innovative courses of importance to commercial horticulture. He co-ordinates an international team of consultants and trainers servicing horticultural producers in many countries with support in crop protection, traceability, health and safety, preparation for audits and ethical trading issues. He plays a pivotal role in our business development programmes and management of donor-funded programmes.

Louise Labuschagne

Louise Labuschagne of Real IPM - an expert in integrated pest management

Joint Managing Director, Louise has extensive practical field experience in the development of IPM protocols for fruit, vegetable and flower crops in Europe and Africa, which have resulted in substantial reductions in pesticide use by commercial growers.

She has been instrumental in the development of commercial mass-production capabilities for indigenous natural enemies and biopesticides in Kenya, from the initial bioprospecting surveys to registration and commercialisation.

Louise is proactive in the identification of new opportunities for biological control agents capable of replacing pesticides in crops as diverse as coffee, bananas, flowers, nuts, vegetables and fruit. She provides technical consultancies to several UK supermarkets on IPM issues.

Rikki Agudah

Rikki Agudah of Real IPM an expert in integrated pest management

As Commercial Development Manager and Training Manager for Real IPM, Rikki is responsible for our expanding export sales programme as well as internal business development. He also manages our extensive international training programmes which cover a wide range of our professional development courses, including Safe Use of Pesticides, IPM courses for vegetable and flower crops and Pesticide Awareness courses.

As well as an agricultural degree, Rikki holds the UK crop protection certificate, BASIS and the fertiliser certificate FACTS and is legally qualified to give advice in these areas to UK standards. Rikki has provided technical consultancy in Rwanda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Zambia and Zimbabwe. He is leading the development of our fledgling NGO ? The Real Impact Development Programme.

Samuel Ngugi Mwaura

Sam is our Technical Manager responsible for developing IPM field use protocols for our biological control agents in collaboration with our full time Regional Real IPM Consultants. He also supervises the mass production of our biological control agents with the assistance of Anne Kiaire. He joined Real IPM in January 2006 and has 7 years experience in IPM and is qualified with a BSc in Agriculture specialising in Crop Protection from the University of Nairobi. He also has the BASIS floriculture qualification and fertiliser diploma (FACTS). Sam has undertaken consultancies in Brazil and Kenya.

Consolata N Mutua

Consolata has more than eight years practical management experience in IPM programmes, including the production of organic vegetables. She is a horticulture graduate from University of Nairobi, specialising in crop protection. Consolata laid the foundations of our highly successful programmes at Oserian, the largest flower company in Kenya and is now based in the Mt Kenya region providing technical support for flower, fruit and vegetable growers, as well as taking an active role in IPM protocol development. She is also responsible for our development work in Ethiopia.

Collins Wanyama

Collins will be taking a sabatical year to study for his MSc in Crop Protection in the UK. A graduate from the University of Nairobi, Collins has the numerous practical experience as a Head of Crop Protection application in one of the largest horticultural farms in Kenya before joining Real IPM. He is a qualified EUREP GAP Internal Auditor as well as being BASIS and FACTS qualified.

Collins manages our IPM customers in the Rift Valley and is based in Naivasha.

He undertakes a wide range of training in Kenya and beyond. Collins has provided training in Zimbabwe, Zambia, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya and has six years experience in managing IPM programmes. Collins has also contributed an invited paper to a Crop Protection Conference at Cambridge University.

Irene Thuranira

Irene

Irene has worked with us for over 8 years as the long with longest serving member of staff. She has accountancy and business management qualifications and runs our increasingly complex invoicing and management accounting systems. Irene is responsible for human resource management, which now exceeds 50 staff, and is an active member of the Senior Management Team. Irene liaises with customers over their accounts with us.

Anne Kiaire

Anne joined Real IPM in 2004 with a diploma in pharmacology to develop and manage our pack-house operations. Since then she has developed a strong interest in mass production of biological controls and provides technical support to Sam in the daily supervision of our rearing programmes?. She has provided technical support to our customers in Ecuador.

Daniel Nene

Daniel has a diploma in microbiology and five years experience in mass production of biopesticides. He heads up our expanding team of laboratory staff who are developing a range of very useful biopesticides. Nene is responsible for ensuring the development of low-tech, practical, mass production techniques for our biopesticides in collaboration with external consultants and Real IPM Directors. He also manages the development and implementation of quality control systems and contributes to our field trials programme.

Kichozi Farm (Thika) staff

The following staff are key managers at Kichozi farm: John Owith (Estate Manager), Hellen Kariuki (Procurement Officer) and Jane (Packhouse Manager).

Naivasha Phytoseiulus Production Unit at Oserian

This is managed by Maurice Oguthu in conjunction with Sam and Collins.

Real IPM associates

In addition to our own fulltime staff, we have a panel of experts drawn from a wide range of disciplines, available for consultation or as part of a project team. We can provide a holistic consultancy service covering the following topics:
