BASIS and FACTS qualifications A number of our courses can be taken as distance learning qualifications. The courses take the form of Learning Packs, which are downloaded and studied at the student’s own pace. Online assessment papers give students an ongoing record of their position in the course and their achievement to date in preparation for the exam.
Students of the online learning courses have access over the Internet to the course tutor to check on queries and problems at any time during their enrolment and study.
The exam itself cannot be taken online and students who wish to sit for it must travel to the examination centre (currently in Kenya or UK) for two days in order to be examined. BASIS (vegetables)This is a diploma level course covering all aspects of crop protection, from legislation through to pest, weed and disease identification and control. It is recognised as a relevant qualification by GLOBALGAP and is a legal requirement in the UK for crop protection advisors and those who sell pesticides.
The course normally lasts around six months and can be taken either as distance learning, on-site or as a mixture of both methods.
See full details of how the course is organised, and of the syllabus. BASIS (floriculture)This is the equivalent course to the BASIS Vegetables course and it is offered for the first time in 2004. Again it will assist companies to achieve compliance in the new GLOBALGAP audit for flowers and ornamental plants. BASIS (fruit) Real IPM is in the process of developing this course with sponsorship from the UK supermarket chain Sainsbury. FACTS (vegetables)This is a certificate course that covers principals of fertiliser usage and storage, including the use of manure and other soil improvements as well as aspects of environmenal care in fertiliser usage.
The course is distance learning with an option of three contact days spread over three months.
We also arrange examinations for all these qualifications in other countries: find out more.
